About Me.

My personal Statement

Art, Animation and films have always been a part of my life. From watching Disney films as a child to working for my father, designing and making signs and vinyl graphics. The workshop at EuroDisney was my first introduction into how cartoons and CGI begin their life and this sparked an interest for me that has grown over the years. I am very impressed by how CGI is used to create special effects in movies. Harry Potter films make great use of these special effects to create magical worlds and fantastic effects. The backstage tour at the Harry Potter Studios gave me a good insight into how these effects are created. Stage shows such as Back to the Future rely heavily on CGI projected onto backdrops to create effects such as weather, explosions and movement such as speed and flashbacks. This enhances not only the story but the audiences experiences too, I would find it exiting and a challenge to be involved with a production like this.

Studying A-Level art and Product design means I have covered lots of topics which will be useful in GGI. One of our studies has been to create stages and sets which I have done in one of my favourite styles by the Director Tim Burton who uses stop-motion animation and CGI to create his own unique style which is a mixture of cartoonish Gothic for films such as Nightmare before Christmas and Edward Scissor hands.

For my gold Duke of Edinburgh award I chose woodwork for my skill which I really enjoyed. I built a surfboard from scratch using recycled wood and also reconditioned an old electric guitar, changing it to right-handed from left handed. Studying A-Level maths was useful when it came to accurate measurements and along with creative and practical skills ensured that the final pieces were in proportion, worked well and look appealing. Also for the DoE I completed a residential doing a two week course with the NCS which helped me to work as part of a team, to organise events and to get involved with charity work and fundraising.

Working at Tulleys Farm I saw first-hand the work that goes on behind the scenes at their themed Spooktacular event which is a famous Halloween attraction enhanced with CGI and special effects.

I would very much like to get involved in the CGI, Animation and special effects industry as it is exciting and ever changing. My GCSE’s and A-levels that I am taking along with my hobbies, life experiences and my keen interest are all useful tools that can help me be an ideal student to learn these fantastic skills
