My personal Statement
My early love for Disney films, & later Marvel films were the beginning of my fascination for computer effects. My father has a signage business, designing graphics for cars & signs for businesses. This has led me growing up with a strong interest in art & design. Visiting the Warner Brothers' studio with its behind-the-scenes tours & talks is what really sparked a fascination in the use of effects & animation when used over the original film. CGI videos which are projected onto stages also interest me, they make the shows exciting using effects to tell a story & help the audience at the back enjoy the show. Screens like this were used in Noel Gallagher's last tour as the stage backdrop. Animation visually enhances music sets & stage shows such as “Back to the Future which brings the story to life.

Studying graphic design at GCSE made me confident in using Photoshop to manipulate & edit images. Product Design is one of the 3 subjects I’m studying for A-level & has helped me develop my designing skills linking well with graphics & visual entertainment. I have studied a range of different artists, companies & designers like Selgascano & Memisis who design architecture & design detailed stages that were inspired by exotic flowers. This helped me produce my final product & has taught me about different materials & techniques I could use for various projects. Studying engineering BTEC has helped develop my team-building skills to produce a final product. We’ve learnt how to create risk assessments, logs, & team minutes, teaching me how to work in a team & what it would be like to work in this industry. My 3rd subject is Maths A level. This is very useful & improves my problem-solving when designing, helping me with the other two subjects I take at college. These 3 subjects will all be skills I would use in animation/special effects because they have helped me design & build products.

During my 8 Billion Ideas work experience, I learned interview skills & how businesses create ideas, market & design. This helped me understand what goes on inside businesses. I have worked for a sign company making vinyl graphics & signs which I liked as I got to physically make the signs. It showed me how to work as part of a team & made me better at time management. I’ve also worked as a receptionist in a hairdressers & have recently worked at Tulley’s Farm Shocktober Fest, both of which were great for dealing with the public working with co-workers & timekeeping skills. These experiences have helped me develop my creative skills & encouraged me to work well within a team. I realised that I enjoy the creative side of these jobs & this makes GGI very appealing to me.

I achieved my bronze Duke of Edinburgh award at school & am currently completing my Gold Award at college. This has spanned 3 years, & I have experienced lots of new topics to tackle within groups. All the tasks have been challenging, both physically & mentally, but have found them very enjoyable. I volunteer at Stripy Storks where we sort clothes, toys, & other items for children whose families are experiencing hardship. I completed the NCS for two weeks this summer which was great. Both events have been fantastic bonding experiences with my friends. During the NCS weeks our group volunteered at a dog shelter & worked with the Lucy Rayner foundation which supports physical & mental health. At secondary school, I helped raise money for the charity BACE with my band by releasing a Christmas song on a CD to raise money. Two of my favourite pastimes are playing the guitar & snowboarding, music is a fun pastime which I find relaxing, & snowboarding is so exhilarating.

I am very inspired by the world of animation & think it has an exciting future. I am ready to expand my knowledge in this field & it would be a great career path to get involved in.
